To improve the energy conversion efficiency of the conventional thermal power generation system, it is necessary to increase the inlet gas temperature of the power generation system. From the key issues of combined cycle power generation, the operation temperature of the power generation system should be high, and the emission of greenhouse effect gas combusted from fossil fuel should be decreased. A research committee on high efficiency MHD (Magnetohydrodynamic) power generation and its application has been surveying issues related to the conventional power generation system, and extensively investigated the more efficient power generation system and storage technology such as greenhouse effect gas, etc.. The results of technology and research subjects required for future power generation system were summarized as a technical report over three years of activity from June 2013 to May 2016. In this technical report, recent progresses of MHD power generator were described. In addition, as a related technology, the space applications using MHD and MPD (Magnetoplasmadynamic) thruster were described. We expect these technologies to contribute greatly to the revitalization and development of research on MHD power generation, its related technologies and applied fields. |
