	Expansion of power electronics technology to automobiles

	Power electronics technology is expanding in an automobile technology. The beginning of application of power electronics was the development of electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle. Next target of power electronics was improvement of mileage by the electrification of engine driven machineries. Recently, idling-stop technology is widely used for all Internal Combustion Engine driven vehicles. During the period of idling-stop, electrification of on-board machines has been increasing. Therefore, power electronics for auxiliary machines on board has been developed. In this report, the expansion of power electronics for automobiles is investigated and reviewed.
