Photovoltaic power generation (PV) is attracting attention to cope with climate change and also energy security in future. In Japan, installation of PV is accelerated by the feed-in tariffs, then the amount of installed PV is about 20 GW at the end of 2014. To become economically independent and to cover a part of future power systems by PV systems, it is necessary to research elemental technology of PV systems to add value of PV systems. And it is important to research both PV system side and power system side to achieve stable power system operation. Furthermore, cooperation technology between PV and power systems may be important to cope with problems of grid-interconnection of PV systems at low cost. In this report, the result of investigation on the research works with a focus on PV system connected to power grids, (1) R&D to add value of PV systems such as high efficiency PV system, the operation stabilize, low cost PV systems, etc. (2) R&D on both PV system side and power system side to achieve stable power system operation, such as distribution line voltage control, supply and demand control, frequency control, power system control on fault, etc. |
