Many kinds of magnetic materials are utilized in electric and electronic devices, as well as information and communication devices. Demands for more functionality, more miniaturization, and more integration are everlasting. Nano fabrication technique has been established with fine pattern lithography. For bulk materials, performance is enhanced by controlling nanostructure in the scale from a few nanometers to 100 nm. Quantum size effects and novel functions are expected in magnetic properties, galvanomagnetic effects, and magneto-optical properties of nanostructured magnetic materials with above-mentioned technologies. Thus the study of nanoscale magnetic materials are directly linked to the miniaturization and the enhancement of performance of devices, and important from scientific and technological points of view. This report has been edited by the Investing R&D Committee on Evaluations and Applications of Novel Functions of Nanoscale Magnetic Materials which was formed from July 2010 to June 2013. |
