The broadband network is widely spreding throughout society, and its functions and performance are improving remarkably. New services and businesses using this network are also emerging. It is expected that the expansion of the network scale and improvement of services will continue to progress steadily. We are therefore anxious about the large increase of energy consumption that will accompay network expansion. The "Investigating R&D Committee on Information Apparatus Energy System Trend in Homes and Offices in the Broadband Network Age" was set up to investigate (1) trends in new information apparatus energy system technologies, (2) IT and its energy supply system trends in the home or office, (3) energy-saving technologies trends in the home or office, (4) standards for information apparatus energy systems in the home or office, and (5) the reliability and quality of the information apparatus energy system in the home or office. The trends in the high-speed broadband technology for home networks, such as ADSL, FTTH, PLC and so on, are covered in Chapter 1. Usage trends; Utilization trends information and telecommunications in the home or office are also introduced. Energy consumption in the home or office and trends in energy saving are described by Chapter 2. Technology trends regarding photovoltaics or fuel cells are also described. Trends in the electric supply and battery systems of information apparatuses are covered in Chapter 3. Standards for information apparatuses are shown in Chapter 4. At the end, recommendations are summarized in Chapter 5. |
