The main permanent magnet material of a PM motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) was ferrite and alnico magnet until late 1960s. The high-performance Ne-Fe-B magnet was developed in 1980s, and as a result, the PM motor rapidly developed. In addition, because the Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) was selected as a Hybrid Electric Vehicle Motor, the PM motor has been more and more widely used. However, recently, the cost of magnet has been expensive, and therefore PM motor use has not been spreading as widely as expected. In order to significantly increase the PM motor use, it is necessary to develop the technologies of motor and drive system for further downsizing, further weight saving, and higher efficiency. This investigation committee researched on motors, motor systems, control technologies, etc. In this report, results given are organized as follows:
1. |
The trend of PM motor industry applications. |
2. |
The latest PM motor technologies in the field of servo, industry applications, home appliances, and the automobiles. |
3. |
The PM motor control technologies. |
4. |
The issues for PM motor industry applications. |
At the end, this report shows currently-used technologies and noteworthy new technologies that are applied to obtain high efficiency and high performance, and describes future perspectives and future issues. |
