In the field of water and sewage, it is becoming difficult to inherit know-how and deal with failures without delay due to the aging workforce, discontinuation of models, and shortening of the product launch cycle, while upgrading of maintenance is required. This means that it is becoming difficult to maintain the structure for the long-term maintenance and secure parts, and it seems that the trend will be stronger in the future. It is required to work on new maintenance for facilities in order to minimize life cycle cost while ensuring safety operation. Public Facilities Technology Committee in The Institute of Electrical Engineers in Japan established gJoint Research Committee on Applications of Preventive Maintenance and Maintenance Technology for Public Facilitiesh which investigated the needs, problems and current technology for preventive maintenance and maintenance, for two years from July 2005 to June 2006, mainly for water and sewage facilities. The Joint research committee summarized the views based on the results of both the questionnaire of people in the field and the investigation of current technology. The committee recommends the gNew maintenance systemh specifying ideal preventive maintenance and maintenance system. We hope that the system will be used to improve the preventive maintenance and maintenance technology for water and sewage facilities and to perform stable maintenance at low cost. The Joint research committee conducted the investigation and summarized this technical report in cooperation with the Japan Association of Maintenance and Service Contractors. |
